My paintings serve as a visual representation of my healing journey. After years of experiencing different forms of trauma such as; homelessness, poverty, and abuse, I found myself in a liminal space. Heavily inspired by the movement within bodies of water I began to embody the element and shape shift through these experiences. This spiritual process became the foundation for my work. In my art I capture the variations of the emotional movements within my journey; all of them akin to the diverse movements of water. My pieces emulate the rhythmic ebbs and flows of currents and waves of water, mirroring the nonlinear nature of the healing process. My paintings demonstrate that the path to healing can be as turbulent as oceanic tides, or as calm as river currents. My experience has been a mixture of both.
My work tells the story of my transformation, and the experiences I have traversed through the process of healing and self-discovery. This visual storytelling allows the viewer to accompany me on the voyage of emotional exploration. I share my art to spark conversations about healing. My work bears the message that pain is a stranger to no one, which allows my pieces to be familiar to everyone. I specifically seek to raise awareness about the importance of healing within the black community, as we carry generations of unaddressed and unresolved trauma. I firmly believe that collective progress begins with the healing work of every burdened individual.
In the documentation of my personal healing journey, I invite viewers to immerse themselves in my art. I vulnerably explore my own trauma to empower others to do the same. Using my art as a tool I believe that anyone can learn to shape-shift and transcend their past experiences as I did. Although my own experiences serve as the foundation for my work, I recognize that pain is a universal human experience, and I believe that anyone can find a connection to their own healing journey within my art.
